Draft filming.

Here are a few clips of the draft filming we shot a few weeks back. I believe this is a good starting point for us as I believe we have taken some good shots and will maybe even use some of this footage in our actual video. Having this footage will now allow us to have a play around with IMovie so we are able to get a better idea of how our video is going to play out. 

The Video Narrative

We have decided we want our music video to tell a story. The characters are two normal everyday people going about their every day life. We have chosen to base the beginning of our video in a train station as we think that setting is very suitable as an everyday life location. It will start with the male actor (Rhyce) entering the train station with no music playing and taking a seat on the waiting bench. We will begin to hear the beginning of the song through the headphones and then when the singing begins in the song Rhyce will insert his headphones and we will then hear the song fully and clearly. The girl actor (Lucy) will then enter the train station on the other side of the tracks which is when Rhyce will spot her and fall in love. They will make eye contact and realise they need to meet. A train will then come past, stop, and then go. When the train has gone Lucy will have disappeared as if she has got on the train. Rhyce will look and then see that she has gone. The rest of most of the video will be of Rhyce seeing Lucy everywhere he goes and making it clear that she his never of his mind. In the end they will eventually be back at the train station and meet eachother.  

Changes

I have took it upon myself to focus my role more on the camera work due to a disagreement with the other actor within the group. So the two main actors now are Lucy and Rhyce. 

Location shots

Here attached are images of one of the main locations we are going to use. We feel this is an ideal location as there are many places within the park that we can film in to give us the best finishing results. We hope to begin filming by the end of this week or the beginning of next week so that our filming is complete by the target deadline.

Beginning of the week meeting

We gathered at the beginning of the week to discuss what we have produced since half term ended. We have produced draft filming of the main male actor in a local location we are planning to use which has enabled us to experiment different angle shots and to see whether the location is suitable. (Draft filming evidence will be uploaded into a separate blog later on when we have access to the camera we used) Our meeting has also consisted of what we plan to do this week which is take more pictures of Birkenhead park as we feel this location is perfectly suitable for our music video and is a main location we are going to use. 

Half Term

The whole group had last week off due to half term. During this time we have taken more pictures of the train station where we are holding part of our music video. We had also planned to produce some filming but unfortunately this didn't happen due to everyone's work commitments outside of sixth form. It is now our aim to begin and complete our filming for our music video within the next 6 weeks.

27/10/14 - Meeting

Due to half term we aren't able to have our usual monday morning meeting but we have organised in advance what we are going to do during the week off. We have planned to take more photo's of our locations and are likely to make a start on our filming. We are going to borrow a camera off Mr Liddell and meet up on various days to begin our video.

Location Photo's

So yesterday as planned we took a photo of each location we are planning to use (attached below). So far we only have one photo of each location but we plan to get more at different times of the day to help our decision on what times to film in each location. We may also add new locations.

Second Meeting

In todays meeting we looked back on what we had done last week. Having nearly completed our storyboard we are able to move on despite it not being fully completed. We also decided our song choice for our video.

This week we have decided we are going to start taking pictures of our chosen locations as the next step to our planning. We will be taking pictures at different times of the day so we know what each location looks like in different lights. We are also going to be using different camera angles so we are prepared for filming.

Song Choice and Plans

This lesson we have all got together to decide the song we are going to create our video to. The song we have chosen is Disclosure Ft. Sam Smith - Latch. We all agreed this would be suitable song and instantly thought of ideas for our video when listening to it. We put all our ideas on paper and began a storyline. 

First meeting

In our meeting today we decided that this lesson we would create the logo for our Production Company and chose the name which we did successfully as shown in my last post. Next lesson we have decided that we are going to concentrate on on picking the song that we are going to use in our video. This decision will be made and agreed by everyone in our group and once we have decided hopefully we start making our story board and then gradually get closer to start planning locations and filming.

We have decided to call our Production Company 'KKRL'.  Although it seems kind of cliché, we all thought this was suitable as it represents the first letter of each of our names connoting full involvement and contribution from everyone within our group.

Group Meetings

We have decided as a group that every monday morning we will meet up and re cap on things we have already done allowing us in the upcoming week to concentrate on things that are still left to be completed. We believe that this is the best way to get things done in an organised way rather than forget to complete tasks or leave things till last minute. Monday mornings were suitable for the whole group as we are all able to attend at this time.

Deciding Our Roles

Deciding roles is an important part of the task so we thought carefully who would be best suited to each role in the group hopefully resulting in achieving the best in our abilities.

The roles are as followed;

Myself - Editor (post production), Main Actor
Kirstie - Director and Actor
Lucy - Costumes, Set and Actor
Rhyce - Camera man and Actor

We believe that each of our roles in the group will allow us to complete the task effectively.

Coursework Brief

We sat down together as a group and decided on which brief we wanted to work on. We all decided to work on the 'Promotion Package for an album release' Brief. We thought of the pro's and con's of each of the three briefs previously chosen to make our final decision and we thought the Album Release brief was best suited to our group.

Our Groups

The first step is to chose our groups. Our group is made up of; Lucy, Rhyce, Kirstie and myself. Throughout this task I believe we will work well together to achieve the best out of this task.

Research into briefs

I started my research on looking at the OCR media briefs. I chose three to research into which were the following:

1. A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music     promo video, together with two of the following three options:

• a website homepage for the band
• a digipak for the albums release
• a magazine advertisement for the digipak

2. A Promotion package for a for a new film, to include a trailer,
    together with two of the following three options:

• a website homepage for the film
• a film magazine front cover, featuring a film
• a poster for the film

3. An advertising package for a new product or service, to include two      TV advertisements, together with the following three options:

• a radio advertisement
• a TV programme sponsorship sequence 
• a web pop-up

Film Trailer

Task 5

When watching the trailer back there are a few things I thought we did well and a few things I think we could improve on.

Things we did well:

• Copying the style model trailer to our best efforts
• Using the effects on iMovie to our advantage when editing our trailer
• Completing the trailer despite the limited time and recourses we had

Things we could improve on:

• Suitable Costumes
• Better selection of props
• Using a variety of different but suitable locations to film.
• Rehearsing more
• More time on directing the acting

Filming

Third Task

• Next the actors performed what was shown on the storyboard whilst it was filmed. 
• We had five scenes to film and we chose different locations to film them in. 
• There wasn't a lot of thought that went into planning the locations as there wasn't much time but we settled with the recourses we had and tried our best to perform our version of the trailer.

Second Task

Our next task was to convert our style model trailer 'Lucy' onto a story board, picking out scenes we could create in our version. When picking out the scenes we included the speech underneath each scene that our style model included even though we decided on making ours silent in the end. Unfortunately due to limited time we weren't able to perform all the scenes we hoped to shown on our storyboards attached.

Roles In The Group

First Task

Firstly, our group set off on task to find a suitable trailer to shadow as a style model. Once we had found a suitable trailer it was then time to decide on which role each person in the group would pursue. The trailer we chose was for the film 'Lucy' which involved many different roles. Due to the short time bracket we had we were limited on space, costumes, props etc but everyone had an important role and played it well. We chose which people were going to act, who was in charge of directing, who was in charge of the filming and so on.
